Cinderella Complex - Deux

Description

The first version of The Cinderella Complex was a response to fashion and body image in the media.

This version concentrates on the damage that "princess" culture wreaks on an individual personality, until one is rendered limbless, faceless, soulless-- a set of pretty breasts and legs, encased in lace and satin.

The light blue is a throwback to the color scheme of Disney's Cinderella's dress, while the dark pink is a sexualized version of the color most traditionally associated with women. The apple is a reference to Eve, while the tiara references the tradition of "Homecoming" or "Prom Queen." The sewing motif has to do with traditional gender roles, as well as the disjointed artificiality of a modern feminine personality.

I love your concept. I often think of how disgusting the message sent by Cinderella actually is. In the original version, the stepsisters mutilate their feet in a last ditch effort to win the affections of the prince. There's no regard to actual love or female identity. All that is necessary for a happily ever after is a pair of size five feet. To think that young girls still look on this poorly disguised horror story as the model for what they should aspire to be.

Great job. :rose:
